So, you’ve just had your teeth professionally cleaned, and you love them! But, now you’re probably wondering how to keep them sparkling white. It is possible for a time, but you may need touch-ups every couple of months.

Until then, here are some of the best tips and advice we could find!

Electric Toothbrush

Using an electric toothbrush can help with intrinsic staining due to your food or drinks. It does a lot of the work for you, and probably even better than you could.

An electric toothbrush can cover up to 48,000 strokes per minute, and your manual toothbrush can only do up to about 600 strokes per minute. That’s an incredible difference because it’s doubtful that your hand could move that quickly even if you tried.

There are also timers set into the brushes so that you brush for the recommended time of 2 minutes, twice a day. Doing that keeps your teeth nice and clean while scrubbing off the surface stains.

Floss

We know that flossing is important. It removed the plaque from behind your gums and between your teeth. Because it does that, it makes your teeth appear whiter because they are cleaner from removing the excess food.

Watch out for foods that stain

Coffee, black tea, and red wine are some of the most common culprits for stained teeth. Anything rich in color could stain your teeth. If possible, avoid these drinks, or at least limit your intake to reduce stains.

When you drink red wine, black tea or coffee, make sure to use a straw. Your teeth are exposed to the teeth less because it is not splashing against them with each gulp.

Quit smoking

This one might be the hardest of all, but smoking will discolor your teeth quickly. If you can quit, you can keep your teeth whiter for much longer, and stop an unhealthy habit!

Use dentist approved whitening products

Many different types of toothpaste and mouthwashes can keep your teeth white as well. Used alone, it won’t achieve the same level of white as a professional clean can, but it can maintain that brand new color.
